We are at Week 5 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and I’m very excited about our theme of “Before & After.” This theme gave me the opportunity to do something I’d wanted to for over a year, but just never got around to doing it before. I had the idea for this shoot when I got this cool metal plant container at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods (I don’t remember which one.) I had a couple ideas of how exactly to do it, but  ended up going in a slightly different direction for this week’s project.

Our task with “Before & After” was to show the before of our work, whether it was a behind-the-scenes type image or a before we edited type of image. I chose to do a before I edited the image since most of my image concepts relied on work in Photoshop. Mr. Bojangles, as always, was a trooper in helping me out as my subject. So, without further adieu, here is my “before.”

The above image is literally before I do any of the basic retouching I would normally do for my images.

I actually ended up having three “after” images or, maybe I can just call them “middle” and “end” images, because they are a progression of my editing to get to my final image.

So, next up is my “middle” image. It’s in between my starter image and my final execution of the concept. I started to add the color and a lot the texture, as well as, of course, the bubbles and the water (all free brushes for Photoshop I found digging around the internet.)

Next is the “after” image where I put on my final touches in editing and enhancing the image to what I wanted it to look like.

Finally, we have my extra “after” image, which is an extra touch I thought would be fun for this image, a digital painting of Mr. Bojangles and his bubble bath shower. I really like doing the digitally painted images because it adds a little something extra to the portrait. So, there you have my “Before & After” concept shoot of Mr. Bojangles taking a bubble bath.

We have a long list of fabulous pet photographers participating this week, so head on over to see what Pavlina Sanborn Photography, serving Southwest Florida, has for us, and then head around the rest of the blog circle for some more creative “Before & After” images.
